Romare Bearden Artwork
During Black History Month the 3rd Grade class spent a couple weeks learning about Romare Bearden, a famous African American Artist. Bearden is known for making collages out of books, magazines and newspapers, and most of his artwork had musical themes. Students worked hard to create their own collages, and each collage has a musical theme. When we finished our artwork, we took time to write letters to Romare Bearden, imagining what we would like to ask him about his life, love of music, etc. I'm proud of my 3rd Grade artists!

5th Grade Update
5th graders have been busy in Art! Here are a few pictures of Calendar Art and Coat of Arms projects. We used donated calendar pages, cut them in half, and tried to replicate one part of the picture. They look really great, and I am proud of the way that students paid attention to detail. Wonderful work!

Blowing Paint with Straws!
Black History Month Art Contest
For the last 2 weeks a group of 7th Grade artists worked extremely hard on artwork for a contest. These students came in nearly everyday before school as well as sacrificing lunch in the cafeteria in order to work on their drawings! Each student created a piece of artwork that represents what Black History Month means to them. I could not be more proud of these students, and I am really hoping that at least one of our contestants wins a prize (The prizes include laptop computers and family vacations!!). Here are pictures of a few entries.

7th Grade Art
2nd Grade Models!
We had a really fun time in 2nd Grade Art learning how to draw people. People can be one of the hardest things to learn to draw, but it is always more interesting if your own friends are the models! Each student sat on the floor with their own mini chalkboard and used our oval-stlye of drawing people to capture what the model was doing. It was funny to see the various poses, and it was amazing to see how accurate the students' drawings were. Wonderful job, 2nd Grade!
Weekly Update continued...
Here are some pictures from 3rd and 4th grade art classes. Third graders spent a few weeks learning about Pablo Picasso & his crazy style of drawing people. He drew them from the side and the front... in the same picture! They made some very interesting drawings! 4th grade artists used primary colors for their first painting project. They learned about symmetry, and used their knowledge to make funky looking faces. Great work!
Weekly Update!
Here are some pictures of what's been going on in Art class over the last week. Despite 3 snow days in the last 2 weeks(!!), students have accomplished some great things.
First, here are a few pictures from the 8th Grade class. Most students are working on African Art designs. Those that finished early are creating small pieces of artwork from modeling clay, like this awesome snake eating a rat. :)
